1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Ducktail Spoiler

The classic RS ducktail shape for a Carrera-era build. This fiberglass tail replaces the complete engine lid; it is not a small spoiler that attaches to the lid you already have.

For a 1987 Carrera with the earlier 911 hinge and latch arrangement. You’ll also need a stock-style SC/Carrera plastic engine grille, which is not included. Test-fit before paint.

What changes on your 1987 Carrera?

The ducktail gives your G-body Carrera an RS-style rear profile without turning this purchase into a full backdate kit. You are replacing the engine lid and tail together. The fiberglass panel has threaded reinforcement for the stock 911 hinges and a mounting point for the deck latch.

This is an aftermarket RS-style part, not an original 1987 factory spoiler. It does not include bumpers, flares or the other bodywork needed for a longhood conversion.

Plan the grille before the paint

  • Engine grille: use a stock-style SC/Carrera plastic grille. It is supplied separately. If you plan to reuse one, have your body shop check it against the new panel.
  • Hinges and latch: the lid uses the earlier 911 mounting arrangement. The separate GT11A adapters are for 964 hinges, not a standard 1987 Carrera installation.
  • Panel fitting: trial-fit the lid, grille and latch together before finishing. Check gaps, latch operation and clearance to any equipment beneath the lid.

Is it a complete decklid or an add-on?

It is a complete fiberglass ducktail decklid with two-piece construction, not an insert for your existing lid. The supplier lists an average weight of 12 lb. Mounting provisions are built into the panel; the grille is not included.

What if your car has been modified?

A year alone cannot tell us which parts are on the car now. This application assumes the earlier 911 hinge and latch layout. A swapped lid, altered hinges or a custom engine installation needs a closer look. We are not claiming Turbo/intercooler clearance from the model year.

This page focuses on the 1987 Carrera, but the part is not unique to that year. See the original 911RS Duck Tail listing for the broader application, including the different hardware required for a 964.
